Parra studied at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and at the Academia de San Carlos. Her work has been influenced by pre-Hispanic art, as well as by the avant-garde art movements of the 20th century, such as abstract expressionism.
Parra’s work often features abstract elements and geometric forms, and is characterized by the use of bright, contrasting colors. Her work has also been described as an exploration of the duality of life and death, and of the connection between humanity and nature.
Throughout her career, Parra has been recognized with several awards and honors, including the Gold Medal at the Drawing Biennial in Valparaíso, Chile, in 1990 and the Gold Medal at the Florence Art Biennale, Italy, in 2003. Her work is held in public and private collections around the world, including the permanent collection of the Museo Tamayo in Mexico City.
