Pontevedra, Spain, 1902 — Mexico City, 1964. He began painting with his father, the judge and painter Alfredo Souto, and in 1920 entered the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. In 1928 he went to Paris on a scholarship, where his painting moved between post-Cubist forms and a language close to post-Impressionism. He then held a fellowship at the Spanish Academy in Rome. During the Civil War he illustrated «Debuxos da guerra» and Republican magazines. In 1939 he began an exile that took him through France, Cuba and the United States, and in 1942 he settled in Mexico. He painted women, nudes, Galician folk scenes and a Paris recalled from memory. The Museo de Belas Artes in A Coruña holds his work.
